Tote Pan Racks

A tote pan rack is small-parts storage for the jobs plastic bins cannot take. Steel tote pans slide onto horizontal shelves fitted with bin retainers, so oily, hot, sharp or awkwardly heavy parts can be stored, picked from and carried to the bench in the same container — without the pan flexing, splitting or being dragged off the shelf.

The range

These are heavy duty parts storage racks, constructed from welded steel with bin retainers, in a horizontal shelf arrangement with eight shelves per unit:

  • TPHO1345 — 455D × 1350W × 8 shelves, to suit GTP02 pans
  • TPHO1361 — 610D × 1350W × 8 shelves, to suit GTP03 pans
  • TPHO1061 — 610D × 1040W × 8 shelves, to suit GTP03 pans

Other shelf heights are available — if your pans are deeper than standard, or you want fewer, taller openings rather than eight, that is a build option rather than a compromise. Call it out at enquiry stage.

Tote pans are ordered separately

The steel tote pans are supplied as separate items under SKU GTP0BIN. Every rack is sized to suit a specific pan — GTP02 or GTP03 — so the pan reference and quantity need to be confirmed with the rack, not afterwards. This is the detail that most often makes a tote pan order arrive half complete.

Horizontal shelf or louvred panel?

Both formats store small parts; they behave differently in use.

  • Horizontal shelf with retainers — the pan is fully supported along its base and can be lifted out and carried. Right for heavier parts, steel pans, and anywhere the container travels to the point of use.
  • Louvred panel — bins hook onto the panel, so one rack can carry several bin sizes and the layout can be changed at will. Right for high-variety fastener and fitting stores. See bin racks for that format.

Choosing on part weight rather than part count is usually the quickest way to the right answer.

Specifying a tote pan rack

  1. Start with the pan. GTP02 and GTP03 drive the shelf depth — 455 mm and 610 mm respectively — so decide the pan first and let it set the rack.
  2. Then the width. 1350 mm gives the most storage per metre of wall; 1040 mm fits a run where a doorway, column or bench end restricts the space.
  3. Check the aisle in front. Pans are pulled out to be loaded, so allow for the pan depth clear of the rack face, not just for the operator.
  4. Count the part numbers, not the volume. Eight shelves of pans is a fixed number of locations. If you hold more references than locations, a second unit costs less than the daily habit of putting two part numbers in one pan.

Where it fits with the rest of the stores

Tote pan racks sit between drawer storage and shelving. If the parts want to be enclosed, dust-free and lockable, look at workshop storage and drawer cabinets instead. If they arrive in cartons and leave in cartons, heavy duty shelving and racking and shelving are the cheaper route per cubic metre.
