Mobile safety steps — mobile access steps with platform and handrails built in — are the workhorse of any stockroom or warehouse: a wheeled, self-supporting staircase with a top platform and handrails that lets staff pick from pallet racking and shelving quickly and safely. Most models run on weight-reactive (spring-loaded) castors that roll freely when empty and lock firmly to the floor the moment someone steps on — so the steps stay put under load without brakes to remember. Platform height — match it to the top shelf you need to reach. As a rule of thumb, working height is roughly platform height plus 1.8 m of safe reach.

Work platforms & safety platforms
Where a job means standing in one place for longer — assembly, inspection, machine tending, order marshalling — a work platform or safety platform is safer and less tiring than a step ladder. These give a low, stable, guard-railed standing area at a fixed height, so the operator can work with both hands free and no risk of over-reaching from a ladder rung. Podium steps give a fully enclosed, guard-railed standing platform for longer static tasks — maintenance, stock-taking, assembly — where a normal step ladder wouldn't be safe to stand on for extended periods. Folding telescopic platform steps collapse flat for storage and transport, while large-platform safety steps with stabilisers and safety gates suit jobs that need both reach and a secure working area. Aluminium access towers & combination ladders

Safety & compliance
Work at height in UK workplaces is governed by the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER), which require the right access equipment for the task, kept in good condition and regularly inspected. Look for steps, platforms and ladders built to the relevant British/European standards (such as BS EN 131 for ladders and step ladders) and check the rated load and platform height before you buy.
