Dock lights light up the inside of an HGV trailer or shipping container from the loading dock — giving operatives clear visibility of the load, the floor and the gap while they work. The back of an unlit trailer is one of the darkest working areas in any warehouse, and poor visibility is behind a good share of loading bay slips, mis-picks and pallet strikes. A dedicated dock light at each door is a simple, permanent fix.
Thorworld Super Deluxe LED dock light
The Super Deluxe (model TWDL-5L) is a 30 W LED unit with a 3,300 lumen output — bright enough to throw usable light the full depth of a trailer. The head sits on an articulated arm with a reach of 1,100 mm when fully extended, moving in two planes and pivoting at three points, so the beam can be positioned precisely into the vehicle during loading and unloading. When the bay is idle, the whole unit swings flat to one side of the doorway, out of the path of forklifts and roll cages.
Practical details: a polycarbonate lens cover with a metal guard protects the lamp from knocks, an integrated switch keeps operation simple, and the unit is IP65 rated so it's suitable for indoor and outdoor bays alike. It runs on a 100–240 V supply and weighs 6.5 kg. Like most of the Thorworld range, it's designed and manufactured in the UK at Thorworld's Chesterfield factory.
Building a safer bay
Lighting is one layer of loading bay safety. Combine dock lights with wheel chocks to prevent vehicle movement, dock bumpers to protect the dock face, and dockboards and dockplates to bridge the dock-to-vehicle gap safely.
