Why use a gas cylinder cage?
UK guidance (HSE, DSEAR and BCGA Code of Practice 44) expects compressed gas cylinders to be stored upright, restrained, secured against unauthorised access and — wherever possible — outdoors in a ventilated area away from buildings, drains and ignition sources. A purpose-built gas cylinder cage ticks all of those boxes: open mesh construction provides natural ventilation, cylinders are held by retaining chains, and lockable doors keep the public and untrained staff out. Each Grenadier® cage is supplied with a “Highly Flammable” warning sign and provision for a padlock.
LPG cages & propane cylinder storage
Looking for an LPG gas cage? The Grenadier® cage range is built around the standard ‘Calor gas’ type cylinder — the familiar propane and butane bottle format — with static and mobile carriers designed to hold up to 16 cylinders behind hinged lockable doors. Because LPG is heavier than air, HSE guidance expects propane and butane cylinders to be stored outdoors, at ground level, away from drains, pits and openings into buildings — exactly the conditions an open-mesh, ventilated cage provides. Our LPG cages come in painted or galvanised finishes; galvanised is the better choice for cages that live outside year-round.
Lock-up gas cylinder cages
Grenadier® Cylinder Storage Lock Up Cages are manufactured in angle iron infilled with tough iron mesh, with cylinders held by a retaining chain. Choose permanently fixed units — the base is drilled for fixing points so the cage can be bolted down — or pallet-based units that can be repositioned by forklift as your yard layout changes.
Knock-down cylinder cages
Where access is tight, Grenadier® Knock Down Gas Cylinder Cages are delivered flat and bolt together on site. Robust mesh panels (25 x 25mm or 50 x 50mm depending on model) form a strong, rigid frame topped with a galvanised roof to keep weather off valves and regulators. All knock-down cages include a hasp-and-staple locking facility (padlock not supplied), and selected models come with a pallet base so the assembled cage can be moved by pallet truck or forklift.
Cylinder pallet cages for transport
If you move cylinders around site or between depots, the GPC Cylinder Pallet Cage is fully welded with supporting sides and central sections, a non-slip steel floor for safe loading and unloading, and a retaining chain or strap to hold cylinders during transit. Selected models are designed for movement by pallet truck as well as forklift.
Fire-resistant gas cylinder stores
For higher-risk storage, our gas cylinder stores are made with 90-minute fire-resistant panels in accordance with DIN 4102 and EN 13501, with lockable doors to prevent unauthorised access. Double stores also accept gas cylinder pallets, so palletised loads can go straight in.
How to choose

Cylinder count and size — count your maximum on-site holding (full and empty cylinders both count) and size the cage with room to segregate flammable from oxidising gases.

Fixed or mobile — bolt-down cages suit a permanent compound; pallet-based and pallet-cage models suit yards where cylinders move with the work.

Access on site — knock-down cages fit through standard doorways and gates, then bolt together where they'll live.

Security and signage — every cage offers padlock provision and flammable-gas signage as standard.
