Skips

Skips

Industrial skips move waste, swarf and offcuts out of production areas quickly and tip the load straight into a bin, baler or wagon without manual handling. KC Supply supplies the full GPC Industries range of forklift-tipped and mobile skips, from 100-litre mini skips that fit under a workbench to 1,500-litre heavy-duty tilting skips and 2.4m³ self-closing units. Everything here is fully welded steel, built in the UK.

Tilting skips

Mobile tilting skips are the workhorse of any workshop. The chassis is welded from hollow sections onto a sheet-mesh base, with a tubular mesh handle for manoeuvring and a safety catch that prevents accidental tipping. They run on two 150mm swivel castors and two 200mm fixed cushion wheels, so one person can wheel a full skip to the tipping point. The mobile swarf skip version adds an internal drain so cutting fluid and coolant can run off before disposal.

Heavy-duty tilting skips

For higher volumes and forklift handling, heavy-duty tilting skips use a stronger chassis designed to be lifted and tipped by a fork-lift truck. They come in 250, 500, 1,000, 1,200 and 1,500-litre capacities, and a 580mm mesh top cage can be factory-fitted where you need to stop loose waste spilling in transit. A forklift is needed to offload and tip these units.

Tilting skip trucks

The 300kg tilting skip truck is CE marked and plated, with side-entry fork pockets, a positive skip-lock mechanism, retaining bars and integral sideguards that enclose the tip skid. The fully welded body is press-formed at the top for rigidity, and units are available mobile or static. They suit swarf and heavier waste where a controlled, locked tip matters.

Self-closing skips

Self-closing heavy-duty skips have a spring-loaded closing bottom: the forklift driver pulls a release catch chain from the cab to empty, and the base closes again automatically. Strong fully welded steel construction lets them stack four high to save floor space, and a full-length hinge keeps the action smooth. Available in 1.6m³ (1380 × 1340 × 1354mm, 164kg) and 2.4m³ (2000 × 1200 × 1354mm, 212kg).

Bottom-emptying, roll & mini skips

Bottom-emptying skips discharge their load through the base for clean, controlled tipping. Heavy-duty roll skips hold 0.8m³ (1203 × 1550 × 895mm) for moving bulky waste. Mini skips are made for tight production areas — they fit neatly under a workbench, run on three 100mm nylon castors (two fixed, one swivel) and come in 100, 150 and 190-litre sizes, with an optional 200mm mesh top cage. As with the tilting range, a forklift is needed to lift and empty them.

How to choose the right skip

Start with how the skip will be emptied: choose a mobile tilting skip if it will be wheeled and hand-tipped, or a heavy-duty tilting or self-closing skip if a forklift will lift and tip it. Match the litre or cubic-metre capacity to your waste volume between empties, and add a mesh top cage for light or wind-blown waste. For wet swarf, pick a model with an internal drain. Always check your forklift's rated capacity and fork dimensions against the loaded weight, and operate tipping equipment in line with PUWER and your site's safe-handling procedures.
