Mobile steps put a worker at picking height on a guarded platform with braked castors underneath — not on a wobbling ladder or the bottom shelf of a rack. This range covers light professional use in stores and archives through to ultra heavy-duty industrial access, with safe working loads of 300 kg and 500 kg and platform heights from 500 mm to 3,750 mm.
You will see the same equipment sold as mobile platform steps, mobile warehouse steps, mobile access steps or simply industrial steps. They describe the same thing: a wheeled, braked stepped unit with a guarded standing platform at the top, built for repeated commercial use rather than occasional DIY.
Choosing mobile safety steps: the four decisions
Every specification here comes down to four questions, in this order.

Platform height. Measure to your highest regular pick and work back. You stand on the platform, never above it, so the platform height is your working deck — the range runs 500 mm to 3,750 mm and the Klime-Ezee ranges quote working heights up to 5,500 mm depending on model.

Safe working load. Add the heaviest user, their PPE, and whatever they carry up. The Klime-Ezee Light-Weight, Industrial and Knock-Down ranges are rated to a 300 kg SWL; the Heavy-Duty range is rated to 500 kg.

Tread width. 550 mm is the standard across the Klime-Ezee ranges. Specify the 700 mm Extra-Wide or Heavy-Duty treads where staff carry stock in both hands, or where the unit is tall enough that a wider footing genuinely changes how confident people are on it.

How it gets into the building. Most units arrive fully welded and assembled. If your doorways, corridors or lift are tight, the Knock-Down range ships flat-packed and is built on site.

Klime-Ezee Light-Weight — stores, archives and offices
The same proven design as the Industrial series but built from 19 mm steel tubing instead of 25 mm, so the unit is easier to reposition through the day. Rated to a 300 kg SWL, with 550 mm treads and a 550 × 400 mm platform. Platform heights run 500 mm to 1,500 mm and working heights 1,500 mm to 3,250 mm. Depending on model, units are fitted with plunger castors or a central braking system. Supplied fully assembled.
Klime-Ezee Industrial — the default warehouse mobile step
The original and best-selling series, fully welded steel, 300 kg SWL, 550 mm treads and a 550 × 400 mm platform. Platform heights 750 mm to 3,750 mm, working heights to 5,500 mm depending on model, with a 60° angle of ascent. Side or central lever braking by model. Supplied fully assembled and ready for use.
Klime-Ezee Extra-Wide — 700 mm treads for carrying stock
Where the job involves going up with something in your hands, the Extra-Wide range gives 700 mm of footing and a 700 × 400 mm platform. Platform heights 500 mm to 3,750 mm, working heights to 5,500 mm, 60° ascent, fully welded. Rear legs splay at approximately 3° for stability, every model has a rear toe plate, and the 7–15 tread versions add toe plates on all three sides of the platform.
Klime-Ezee Knock-Down — for restricted-access buildings
Engineered for narrow doorways, tight corridors, low beams and awkward entrances. Same 300 kg SWL and the same 550 mm treads and 550 × 400 mm platform as the Industrial range, with platform heights 1,250 mm to 3,750 mm and working heights to 5,500 mm — but supplied knocked down with assembly instructions so it can be carried in and built where it will be used.
Klime-Ezee Heavy-Duty — 500 kg SWL
Built from 25 mm heavy-duty steel tube and reinforced 25 mm box section, with the frame, base, rear legs and axle all strengthened. 500 kg safe working load, 700 mm treads and an oversized 700 × 600 mm platform — the largest working deck in the range. Platform heights 1,250 mm to 3,750 mm, working heights to 5,500 mm, 60° ascent, heavy-duty steel-centred wheels and a central lever brake. Specified for maintenance work and industrial operations that need room as well as capacity.
GPC Climb-It mobile steps with safety gate
Certified to EN 131 Professional, with a 600 × 500 mm anti-slip plywood platform, wide-profile non-slip treads, a fully enclosed platform with spring gates, and braked swivel castors. Available in 6, 8, 10 and 12 tread. The CAW512 comes with adjustable stabilisers for additional stability. This is the unit to specify where the platform must be enclosed on all sides.
Treads, brakes and colours
The Klime-Ezee Industrial, Knock-Down and Light-Weight ranges offer punched metal, PVC-covered or rubber-covered treads. Blue is supplied as standard across the Klime-Ezee ranges, with red, yellow, green, grey and orange available — useful if your site colour-codes equipment by department or by inspection interval. Braking is by plunger castor, side lever or central lever depending on range and model; the brake acts on the front castors so the unit locks where you put it.
Mobile steps and the law
Mobile safety steps are work equipment under PUWER 1998, so they should be visually checked before use and formally inspected on a set schedule. Look for split or worn tread coverings, castor brakes that no longer hold, bent or loose handrails, and any sign the frame has been struck by a truck. They are not lifting equipment, so LOLER thorough examination does not apply to them — that regime covers equipment that lifts loads or people, such as stackers and man cages. Mobile steps also fall within the Work at Height Regulations 2005: work at height above the platform is still work at height, the platform is the deck, and nobody should be standing on the handrail or the top guard to gain another 400 mm.
Mobile steps or something else?
If the work is low-level and repositioned constantly, a hop-up platform may suit better than a stepped unit. If you need a larger working deck or a fixed position, look at the wider work platforms and warehouse steps range. If the job is lifting the load rather than the person, the answer is a lift table or level loader, not steps.
