Apollo is GPC Industries' UK-manufactured range of powered platform and distribution trucks — battery-driven trolleys that take the push out of long, repetitive internal transport runs. They sit between a manual platform truck and a full electric tug: the operator still walks with the unit, but the drive wheels do the work.
Apollo powered platform trucks
The Apollo UK Powered Platform Trucks (mesh end and sides) are built on a strong steel frame with a steel back, powder coated in anthracite grey or blue, with a heavy duty timber deck in a durable painted finish and mesh sides and ends to retain loose or stacked goods. They run on two swivel 200 mm rubber castors and two fixed pneumatic 200 mm drive wheels, and carry a 600 kg uniformly distributed load on level, even surfaces. A cable management system keeps the charging lead tidy rather than trailing.
Apollo powered distribution trucks
The Powered Distribution Trucks use the same drive platform but add shelving: heavy duty steel-framed shelves rated at 100 kg each, adjustable in 100 mm increments, within the same 600 kg total capacity. That makes them the better choice for multi-drop internal distribution — post and stores rounds, hospital and campus deliveries, production line feeding — where goods need separating rather than stacking.
Battery, range and running them well
Both models charge in around six hours to full, giving a 2.5 to 6 mile range depending on load. As with any traction battery, do not let it run flat — routine deep discharge is the fastest way to shorten battery life, so build a charging habit into the shift pattern rather than charging only when the truck stops moving. The published capacity assumes a level, even surface; gradients, ramps and broken floors all reduce what the drive wheels can realistically handle.
Is a powered truck the right answer?
The case for a powered unit is distance and frequency, not weight alone. A 600 kg manual platform truck is perfectly manageable over ten metres and punishing over three hundred, repeated forty times a shift. If your runs are long, frequent or on a route with slight gradients, an Apollo unit pays back in reduced operator fatigue and manual handling risk. If the load is heavier or needs lifting rather than transporting, look at a pallet truck or stacker instead.
