Cloakroom Benches with Baskets

Cloakroom Benches with Baskets

A basket bench carries open wire baskets in the frame beneath the seat, so boots, trainers, shin pads and wet kit go into a defined space instead of a heap on the floor. It is the configuration that stops a changing room turning into an obstacle course, and it is far easier to clean under than a bench with a solid shelf.

Baskets or an undershelf?

Both keep kit off the floor. The differences that matter in practice:

  • Airflow. Open mesh lets damp kit breathe. A solid shelf traps moisture underneath, which is exactly how a changing room starts to smell. For sports, swimming and anything outdoors, baskets win.
  • Allocation. A basket gives each user a bounded space. A shelf is shared, and shared shelves fill up from one end.
  • Cleaning. Mesh drains and dries; a floor under a basket bench can be mopped straight through.
  • Bulk. A long shelf takes awkward, oversized items a basket will not. If the room handles kit bags rather than boots, look at the undershelf models on the single sided and double sided pages.

Note that baskets are open storage, not secure storage. Anything that needs locking away belongs in a locker — see our guide to locker locks if security is the driver.

What is in this range

Eight basket configurations, all on the UK-manufactured Probe frame — welded tubular mild steel, powder-coated, seat slats in beech hardwood or black polymer, full ironmongery included:

  • Single sided with baskets (310mm deep) and double sided with baskets (710mm) — seat and baskets, no hanging above.
  • Single sided hook with baskets and double sided hook with baskets — the same, plus a coat hook rail on a 1,840mm frame.
  • Single overhead rail with baskets and double overhead rail with baskets — baskets below, hanging rail above.
  • Single low seat with baskets and double low seat with baskets — 1,000mm frames, seating and baskets only.

Sizes and heights

Lengths run 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000mm. Seat heights are 350mm Infant, 400mm Junior and 475mm Senior on the hook and seat-only models; hanging frames stand 1,840mm overall and low seat frames 1,000mm.

As across the rest of the Probe bench range, Infant and Junior heights are available on the hook and seat-only basket benches, while the overhead rail and low seat versions are Senior height only. Specify primary and nursery cloakrooms from the hook models.

Specifying

Count baskets against peak headcount rather than wall length, then pick bench lengths to suit — mixing a 2,000mm and a 1,000mm unit usually fits a real wall better than one long run. Single sided benches fix back to the wall; double sided island units fix to the floor.

Frames come in red, yellow, blue, green, black, white or silver, which makes colour-coding teams or year groups easy. Black polymer slats are the right call anywhere wet — the same environments where baskets earn their keep.
