Single Sided Cloakroom Benches

Single Sided Cloakroom Benches

A single sided bench sits against a wall. The seat faces into the room, and any hooks, rail or shelf sit behind and above it, fixed to the same frame. It is the format that suits corridors, perimeter runs and any changing room where floor space is tight — because the whole unit is shallow.

That depth is the reason most buyers end up here. Our single sided Probe benches are 375mm deep across the hook, rail and basket configurations, and 310mm deep on the seat-only undershelf and basket units. A double sided bench is 710mm deep by comparison, so a single sided run gives back roughly 335mm of floor along every wall it replaces. In a 1,200mm circulation corridor that is the difference between a usable route and a bottleneck.

What is in this range

Eleven single sided configurations, all built on the same UK-manufactured Probe frame — welded tubular mild steel, powder-coated, with seat slats in beech hardwood or black polymer, and full ironmongery supplied:

  • With coat hooks — hook rail above the seat on a 1,840mm frame. The standard school and staffroom format. See all benches with hooks.
  • Hook with undershelf and hook with baskets — the same hook rail, plus storage below the seat so boots and bags stay off the floor.
  • With overhead rail and overhead rail with undershelf — a high-level hanging rail for hangers and full-length coats, again on a 1,840mm frame. See overhead rail benches.
  • With undershelf and with baskets — seat and storage only, no hanging above, for rooms where lockers already handle coats. See basket benches.
  • Low seat, low seat with undershelf and low seat with baskets — 1,000mm frames, seating only.

Sizes and heights

Lengths run 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000mm, so runs can be made up to fit the wall rather than forcing the room to fit the bench. Seat height is specified by user group: 350mm Infant, 400mm Junior, 475mm Senior.

Worth knowing before you specify: the Infant and Junior heights are available on the hook, undershelf and basket configurations, but the overhead rail and low seat units are Senior height only. If you are fitting a primary or nursery cloakroom, work from the hook-rail models.

Fixing and finish

Single sided benches are designed to be fixed back to the wall — the frame carries hanging loads as well as seated ones, and wall fixing is what stops a loaded bench tipping forward. Check the substrate before ordering: a dot-and-dab plasterboard wall will need noggins or a resin anchor into blockwork behind.

Frames come in red, yellow, blue, green, black, white or silver. Colour-coding year groups, departments or home and away sides costs nothing extra and saves a lot of explaining. Beech slats give the traditional cloakroom look; black polymer is the sensible choice anywhere wet — poolside, showers, outdoor sports changing.
