The Owner's Insights on the Pallet Based Gas Bottle Cage
The pallet base is the point of this one. It has forklift access built into the bottom, so the whole cage lifts and moves as a unit with the cylinders still chained inside. If your gas store has to shift when the yard gets reorganised, or you want to move a full cage to where the work is, this is the version to buy.
Construction is angle iron infilled with mesh, cylinders held by a retaining chain, and provision for a padlock. The flammable sign comes fitted, which saves you sourcing one and getting pulled up for not having it.
If the cage is going in one place and staying there, the fixed version costs less and does the same job. Buy the pallet base only if you genuinely need to move it.
Why You'll Love the Pallet Based Gas Bottle Cage
- Pallet base with forklift access: relocate the cage fully loaded instead of unloading cylinders first.
- Angle iron frame with mesh infill: ventilation where compressed gas needs it, strength where knocks happen.
- Retaining chains fitted: cylinders stay upright and secured, which is the first thing an inspector checks.
- Provision for padlock: secures against unauthorised access without a lock you cannot replace.
- Highly flammable sign included: correct signage fitted from new rather than bought separately.
- Painted or galvanised: galvanised for permanent outdoor positions, painted where cost matters more than coastal weather.
Why You Should Consider a Grenadier Cage
Grenadier is GPC's heavy end, built from angle iron rather than folded sheet. On a cage holding compressed gas outdoors for a decade, the frame section and the galvanising are what determine whether it is still serviceable at year ten. The base is drilled for fixing points if you later decide to bolt it down.

Pallet based or permanently fixed?
Pallet based means the cage has forklift pockets and moves as a loaded unit. Permanently fixed means it bolts to the ground and stays. Pallet based suits sites where the layout changes, where the cage follows the work, or where you want the option to move it later. Fixed suits a permanent gas compound. We stock both, and the fixed CS5 range is the cheaper of the two if you do not need to move it.
Painted or galvanised?
Galvanised costs more and lasts considerably longer outdoors, particularly anywhere coastal or exposed. Painted is adequate under cover or in a sheltered yard, and saves a meaningful amount. For a cage that will live outside permanently and hold compressed gas, galvanised is the one we would recommend, and we will say so even though it is the dearer option.
Gas cylinder storage regulations in the UK
Storing compressed gas cylinders brings duties around secure storage, ventilation, separating incompatible gases, signage and keeping cylinders upright and restrained. The specifics depend on your gas, your quantities and your site layout. This cage covers security, ventilation, restraint and signage as supplied. Positioning and separation distances are a matter for your own risk assessment and your local fire authority. Call us on 020 3004 1152 if you want to talk through what others in your trade typically specify.
Delivery and unloading
A forklift is needed on site to unload. Given the cage is itself pallet based, a forklift is almost certainly something you already have if this is the right product for you.
GPC Industries made-to-order: drum stores, Grenadier security cages, hazardous-substance cabinets, sheet and bar racks, smoking and cycle shelters, custom workbenches and bespoke configurations are built per order and typically delivered in 10–20 working days from order acceptance.
Larger units, oversized cages and project work may extend further. Lead time confirmed at order acceptance.
Delivered by UK pallet freight. Note: additional surcharges apply to Scottish Highlands, Islands and remote postcodes. For bulk orders or site-specific configurations, contact us.
Your product is covered by a 12 month Warranty or more if you opted for the extended warranty. Make sure you register your product.
