The Owner's Insights on the Gas Cylinder Store
This is a building, not a cage. Walk-in gas cylinder storage at 2360mm tall, built from 90 minute fire-resistant panels, and the fire rating is the whole reason it costs what it costs. A mesh cage keeps cylinders secure. A fire-rated store buys ninety minutes if something next to it goes up.
You choose on three axes: how many cylinders (12, 24 or 48), how wide (1731mm or 3353mm), and mesh doors or fire-rated doors. The mesh versions suit well-ventilated outdoor positions where security is the concern. The fire-rated versions are for when the store sits near a building, a boundary, or anything you cannot afford to lose.
Honest steer: most people over-buy on capacity and under-buy on fire rating. Count your actual cylinder turnover before you size it, and if the store is going anywhere near an occupied building, take the fire-rated doors.
Why You'll Love the Gas Cylinder Store
- 90 minute fire-resistant panels: manufactured to DIN 4102 and EN 13501, giving ninety minutes of protection rather than a mesh barrier.
- 12, 24 or 48 cylinder capacity: sized to actual turnover instead of forcing you into one footprint.
- Lockable doors throughout: stops unauthorised access to compressed gas, which is a standard audit question.
- Suitable for all gas types: no need to specify the gas when ordering or to buy separate stores for different cylinders.
- Double stores take cylinder pallets: the 3353mm width accepts palletised cylinder deliveries directly.
- Manufacturer service and maintenance: support comes direct from GPC rather than through a third party.
Why You Should Consider a GPC Gas Cylinder Store
GPC manufacture in the UK and support these stores directly, which matters on a fire-rated structure where any repair has to maintain the rating. The panels are certified to DIN 4102 and EN 13501, both recognised European standards, so the ninety minute figure is tested rather than claimed.

Gas cylinder storage regulations in the UK
Compressed gas cylinders are covered by several overlapping duties in the UK, and the detail depends on the gas, the quantity and where the store sits relative to buildings, boundaries and drains. Broadly, the expectations are secure storage against unauthorised access, good ventilation, separation of incompatible gases, protection from fire, and clear signage.
What applies to your specific site is a matter for your own risk assessment and, where relevant, your local fire authority and the HSE. We are not going to quote you a separation distance from memory, because getting that wrong matters. Call us on 020 3004 1152 and we will talk through which configuration people in your situation usually specify.
Mesh doors or fire-rated doors?
Mesh doors give maximum ventilation and secure the cylinders against theft and interference. They are the right choice for an open yard position well away from buildings. Fire-rated doors add the 90 minute barrier and are what you want when the store is close to an occupied building, a boundary wall, or a neighbouring unit. The price difference is significant, and so is the difference in what happens during a fire.
How many cylinders do you actually need to store?
Count peak holding rather than average. Most sites run a buffer of full cylinders plus a return stock of empties, and the empties are what catch people out when sizing. If you are between sizes, the 24 cylinder store in the wider 3353mm body gives you room for palletised deliveries, which saves double handling every time stock arrives.
Delivery and installation
These are substantial structures. Plan the position, the base and the access before ordering, and ring us on 020 3004 1152 if the site is tight. We would rather work it out beforehand than have a lorry turn up and go away again.
GPC Industries made-to-order: drum stores, Grenadier security cages, hazardous-substance cabinets, sheet and bar racks, smoking and cycle shelters, custom workbenches and bespoke configurations are built per order and typically delivered in 10–20 working days from order acceptance.
Larger units, oversized cages and project work may extend further. Lead time confirmed at order acceptance.
Delivered by UK pallet freight. Note: additional surcharges apply to Scottish Highlands, Islands and remote postcodes. For bulk orders or site-specific configurations, contact us.
Your product is covered by a 12 month Warranty or more if you opted for the extended warranty. Make sure you register your product.
