A roll skip is pushed to where the waste is and tipped. A bottom emptying skip is designed to be lifted by forklift and discharged through the base, which suits emptying into a larger container or a vehicle without tipping. If your waste goes into a bin lorry or a bulk skip, bottom emptying saves handling. If it is being wheeled to a yard, a roll skip is simpler.

How big is 0.8 cubic metres in practice?

Roughly 800 litres, or about four standard wheelie bins. For dense waste such as metal offcuts you will hit the weight limit long before the volume.
