The Owner's Insights on the Rough Terrain Pallet Truck
A standard pallet truck has small hard rollers and stops dead at the first pothole, kerb or patch of mud. This one runs on pneumatic wheels mounted on hubs with sealed bearings, which is the combination that actually works on a building site or a farm yard.
The forks adjust out to 580mm wide to take pallets up to 1200mm, so it handles the odd-sized and home-made pallets you get outdoors rather than only neat Euro pallets. Lowered fork height is 50mm, which gets under most things sitting on uneven ground.
Honest point: at 173kg it is heavy to push on a soft surface, and it is still a hand pallet truck. If you are crossing fifty metres of mud regularly, GPC do a 1200kg electric version and that is the better answer.
Why You'll Love the Rough Terrain Pallet Truck
- Pneumatic wheels on sealed-bearing hubs: rides over potholes, gravel and thresholds that stop a standard pallet truck.
- Adjustable forks to 580mm wide: handles pallets up to 1200mm, including the irregular ones you meet outdoors.
- 50mm lowered fork height: gets under pallets sitting on uneven or soft ground.
- Conforms to EN 1757-2, CE marked and plated: certified and plated rather than unmarked import stock.
- Hydraulic lifting with integrated hand pump: no power needed, nothing to charge on site.
- 890mm fork length: shorter than a warehouse truck, which helps manoeuvring in tight outdoor spaces.
Why You Should Consider a VULCAN Pallet Truck
Sealed bearings in the hubs is the detail that matters outdoors. Open bearings fill with grit and seize within a season on a building site. GPC also offer a 1200kg electric version of this truck if the hand pump and pushing are the limiting factor.

Will a standard pallet truck not do?
Not outdoors. A warehouse pallet truck runs on small polyurethane rollers designed for smooth concrete. Put it on gravel, tarmac with potholes, or a yard with a lip at the door and it jams, and the load tips. If every surface you cross is flat concrete, buy a standard truck and save the money. If any of it is not, this is the one.
Hand pump or electric?
The hand pump needs no charging and nothing fails electrically, which suits a site with no reliable power. But at 173kg plus a load on soft ground, pushing is real work. GPC do a 1200kg electric version and if the truck is in constant use outdoors it is worth the step up. Call us on 020 3004 1152 and we will quote it.
