The Owner's Insights on the Vertical Drum Store
This is the unit most people start with. One drum, stood upright, sitting in a 250 litre sump that catches anything that weeps out of the bung or runs down the side when someone is decanting. It is enclosed on three sides, which matters more than it sounds: splash contamination is what gets picked up on an audit, not the dramatic spill.
At 820mm square it takes up roughly the footprint of a pallet, so it drops into a corner of a workshop or sits outside against a wall without rearranging anything. It weighs 110kg empty, so it stays put.
Worth being straight about the limitation: it holds one drum. If you are storing four or more, the horizontal store or a full sump-base unit works out better per drum and saves you floor space.
Why You'll Love the Vertical Drum Store
- 250 litre sump capacity: comfortably exceeds the volume of the 205 litre drum it holds.
- Enclosed on three sides: stops splash contamination reaching the floor or the next drum along.
- Heavy duty corrugated steel: survives outdoors and shrugs off knocks from a pallet truck.
- 820 x 820mm footprint: about the size of a pallet, so it fits where you already have space.
- 3 year guarantee, UK manufactured: made in Britain with a warranty behind it, not a shipped-in import.
Why You Should Consider a GPC Drum Store
GPC Industries manufacture in the UK and back their drum range with a three year guarantee. For storage that lives outdoors in British weather and carries a pollution risk if it fails, that guarantee is the part worth paying for. Lead time is 20 days because these are built rather than pulled off a shelf.

Vertical or horizontal drum storage?
Vertical suits storage and occasional access, where drums go in full and come out full. Horizontal suits dispensing, because the drum lies on its side and you can fit a tap at the bung and draw off as needed. If people are decanting daily, go horizontal. If the drums are just being kept safely, vertical is the cheaper and smaller option.
What does the sump actually need to hold?
Secondary containment requirements in the UK depend on what you are storing, how much of it, and where your site is. The rules differ between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and between oil and other substances. This unit's sump holds 250 litres, which is stated so you can check it against your own assessment. If you are unsure what applies to your site, the Environment Agency or your local regulator is the right first call, and we are happy to talk through the options on 020 3004 1152.
Delivery and unloading
Lead time is 20 days from order. You will need a forklift on site to unload. At 110kg this one is at the lighter end of the range, but it still arrives on a vehicle without a tail lift as standard. Tell us at the point of order if that is a problem and we will sort the delivery method out before it ships.
GPC Industries made-to-order: drum stores, Grenadier security cages, hazardous-substance cabinets, sheet and bar racks, smoking and cycle shelters, custom workbenches and bespoke configurations are built per order and typically delivered in 10–20 working days from order acceptance.
Larger units, oversized cages and project work may extend further. Lead time confirmed at order acceptance.
Delivered by UK pallet freight. Note: additional surcharges apply to Scottish Highlands, Islands and remote postcodes. For bulk orders or site-specific configurations, contact us.
Your product is covered by a 12 month Warranty or more if you opted for the extended warranty. Make sure you register your product.
