A lift cage is a fully enclosed steel cage designed to be picked up loaded — by forklift through the fork guides, or by crane on its forged lifting eyes — so that goods travel and get stored in the same secure unit. It is the format to specify when stock has to move between buildings, or up onto a mezzanine, without being handled twice.
Goods cages, not man cages — the important distinction
The cages on this page are for goods. They are not designed, rated or supplied for lifting people. What we supply
The Grenadier Lift Cages (LSC01M and LSC01S) are fully welded from mild steel with a 1,000kg load capacity. Both carry forged lifting eyes, fork guides on all units, and gas struts to assist raising the roof. Roof and gates take separate padlocks, so you can leave the roof secured while the gates are worked from — padlocks are not supplied. The cages stack up to four high, which is what makes them viable as a storage format rather than just a transport one.

Alongside them sits the Economy Fork Lift Cage (FLC08Z), built to the same 1,000kg capacity and the same welded mild steel construction, for sites that need the format without the full specification.
Choosing between mesh and sheet steel
Mesh is the default: it lets you identify contents at a glance during a stock check, it drains and ventilates, and it weighs less. Sheet steel earns its place where the contents are attractive to theft, where dust or weather ingress matters, or where you simply do not want the contents visible from the yard. If your stock is neither high-value nor dust-sensitive, the mesh version is usually the more practical unit.
Lifting equipment duties
Once a cage is being lifted by crane or hoist rather than carried on forks, it is being used as part of a lifting operation, and the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) apply — including the requirement for lifting operations to be properly planned by a competent person, appropriately supervised and carried out safely, and for lifting equipment and accessories to be thoroughly examined at the required intervals. When you lift on the eyes, use a spreader so the slings pull square rather than pinching the top frame inwards. Where lift cages fit against other formats
If the cage never leaves the floor, a standard Grenadier security cage gives you more capacity per pound. If the load is being craned specifically — rather than forked — look at the craning cages, which are built around that job and accommodate euro pallets. If you are moving stock rather than storing it, the trucks and trolleys range or a pallet stacker may be the better answer.
