The Grenadier range is GPC Industries' heavy-duty security cage line, built in the UK for sites that need to lock plant, tooling, stock or gas cylinders away without putting up a room to do it. Every cage on this page is a steel-framed, mesh-infilled unit with a padlock facility, and the range spans small under-bench cages through to walk-in lock-up stores over 3.4 metres wide. If you are still deciding what type of cage you need, our storage cages buying guide works through mesh grades, cage formats and security levels first.
Welded security cages — the standard Grenadier unit
The core Grenadier Security Cage is an all-welded unit built from steel angle infilled with 25 x 25mm weld mesh. Units are load tested and CE certified, carry a padlock facility (padlock not supplied) and are fitted with cranage eyes for lifting — when lifting on the eyes we recommend using a spreader to keep the load square. Maximum load is 500kg.
Six footprints run across the range, in painted yellow (SCS) or hot-dip galvanised (SCG) finish:
- 700 x 700 x 880mm (W x D x H) — the under-bench size
- 1400 x 700 x 880mm — bench-height, wider
- 700 x 700 x 1680mm — full-height, narrow footprint
- 1400 x 700 x 1680mm — the most common general-purpose cage
- 2070 x 700 x 1680mm — full-height, wide
Every size is available static or mobile. Mobile units run on 4 x 100mm nylon swivel castors, two of them braked, which adds 115mm to the overall height — worth allowing for if the cage has to pass under a door head or a beam. Factory-fitted shelves are available to order, as is a hazardous chemical sign fitted at the factory. If you are choosing between the painted and galvanised versions, our guide to galvanised versus powder-coated steel covers where each finish earns its money.
Heavy duty and lock-up cages
Above the standard range sit two heavier formats. The Grenadier Heavy Duty Galvanised Security Cage (GSC1212) is a 1200 x 1200 x 1800mm unit with a 1390 x 1150 x 1150mm internal envelope and a 500kg capacity, supplied in knock-down form with a 15 to 20 day lead time.
The Grenadier Lock Up Security Cage is the walk-in option — 50 x 50mm mesh panels with a galvanised roof, hasp and staple locking (padlock not supplied), and some assembly required on site. Three widths are available: GLC12Z at 1605mm, GLC15Z at 2545mm and GLC18Z at 3485mm. A forklift is needed to offload these units.
The Security Cage With Lift Up Lid (GBC12Z at 1260mm wide, GBC18Z at 1860mm) is worth knowing about if your stock is loaded from above. It is fully welded, the hinged lid is assisted by gas struts, and the design interlocks — with the lid shut, the front doors will not open, leaving a completely secure enclosed unit. Two forklift pockets are built in.
Gas cylinder cages
A large part of the Grenadier range is dedicated to cylinder storage, which has its own ventilation and segregation requirements. The static and mobile Gas Cylinder Carriers (GCC02Z, GCC12G, GCC01N, GCC11G) are built in angle iron with sides, ends and top infilled with metal strip and a base of inverted angle. The usable distance between shelves is 720mm, internal size is 1560 x 840mm, and each unit is designed to carry up to 16 Calor-gas-type cylinders. All come with a highly flammable sign and hinged lockable doors; mobile models have a push handle at one end.
The Cylinder Storage Lock Up Cages (CS501Z, CS502Z painted; CS511G, CS512G galvanised) are built in angle iron infilled with tough iron mesh at 1095mm or 1715mm depth, with cylinders held by a retaining chain and the base drilled for fixing points. Pallet-based versions (CP601Z, CP602Z, CP611G, CP612G) sit on a pallet base so the whole store can be repositioned by forklift. For the rules that sit behind these products, see our UK gas cylinder storage regulations guide and our gas bottle storage cage guide, or browse the wider gas cylinder storage range.
Knock-down and lifting variants
Two sub-ranges solve specific problems. Knock-down cages arrive flat and bolt together on site — essential where a welded cage simply will not fit through the door. That includes the Strong Knock Down Cages (SCK14Z at 1625H x 1600W x 825D, SCK15Z at 1625H x 1600W x 1650D) in a red powder coat with holes in the base rails for floor fixing, plus the folding and knock-down cylinder cage families. See knock down cages for the full set.
Lift Cages (LSC01M, LSC01S) are the transport-and-store format: fully welded mild steel with forged lifting eyes, fork guides, a gas-strut-assisted roof, separate padlocks for the roof and gates, a 1,000kg capacity and the ability to stack four high. See lift cages.
Practical notes before you order
Padlocks are not supplied with any cage in this range — specify them with the rest of your locking hardware. Most Grenadier units need a forklift for offloading, so check the delivery point can take one. And if the cage is going outside or into a washdown area, take the galvanised finish rather than paint.

Grenadier security cage FAQs
What is a Grenadier security cage?
Grenadier is GPC Industries' heavy-duty security cage range, built in the UK. Every cage is a steel-framed, mesh-infilled unit with a padlock facility, used to lock plant, tooling, stock or gas cylinders away without building a room.
What sizes do the standard welded cages come in?
The core welded cage is built from steel angle infilled with 25 x 25mm weld mesh and comes in six footprints (W x D x H): 700 x 700 x 880mm, 1400 x 700 x 880mm, 700 x 700 x 1680mm, 1400 x 700 x 1680mm and 2070 x 700 x 1680mm, in painted yellow or hot-dip galvanised finish. Every size is available static or mobile.
What is the maximum load of a Grenadier security cage?
The standard welded cages and the Heavy Duty Galvanised Security Cage (GSC1212) are rated to a maximum load of 500kg. The Lift Cages have a 1,000kg capacity and can be stacked four high.
Are padlocks included?
No. Padlocks are not supplied with any cage in this range, so specify them with the rest of your locking hardware.
Do I need a forklift to unload a Grenadier cage?
Most Grenadier units need a forklift for offloading, so check the delivery point can take one. The lock-up security cages in particular need a forklift to offload.
Which finish should I choose, painted or galvanised?
If the cage is going outside or into a washdown area, take the galvanised finish rather than paint.
Can I get a cage that arrives flat-packed?
Yes. Knock-down cages arrive flat and bolt together on site, which is useful where a welded cage will not fit through the door. The range includes the Strong Knock Down Cages, plus folding and knock-down cylinder cage families.
Are there Grenadier cages for gas cylinders?
Yes. A large part of the range is dedicated to cylinder storage: gas cylinder carriers designed to carry up to 16 Calor-gas-type cylinders, cylinder storage lock-up cages with a retaining chain, and pallet-based versions that can be repositioned by forklift.
