Mini Skips

A quick clarification first, because the phrase is used two ways in the UK. If you are looking for a skip hire service — a 2 or 3 yard container dropped on your driveway and collected — that is not what these are. These are industrial mini skips: small steel waste containers that live inside a workshop or production area and are emptied by forklift into a larger skip or bay.

That distinction matters because the two products solve completely different problems. A hire skip removes waste from a site. A mini skip collects it at the point it is generated, so operators are not walking offcuts and swarf across the floor a handful at a time.

Designed around the bench, not the yard

The GPC Mini Skips are specifically designed for production areas where space is limited, and the governing dimension is that each unit fits neatly under a workbench. That is the point of the format — the skip occupies space that was already dead, directly beneath the operation producing the waste.

Each unit is mobile on 3 × 100 mm nylon castors, 2 fixed and 1 swivel. The three-castor arrangement with a single swivel is deliberate: it tracks straight when pulled out and pushed back, rather than wandering the way a four-swivel trolley does in a confined space.

Sizes

Size the skip by how often you are willing to empty it, not by how much waste you generate in total. A 100 litre skip emptied twice a shift and a 190 litre skip emptied once hold the same waste — but the 190 has to fit under the bench, and a full one is heavier to move. Where the bench clearance is tight, the smaller unit emptied more often is usually the better buy.

The mesh top cage option

A mesh top cage, 200 mm high, is available factory fitted. It increases the usable volume for light bulky waste — packaging, offcuts, trim — that fills a skip by volume long before it reaches any weight limit.

Specify it at order stage. It is a factory-fitted option, not something added later.

Two practical points before ordering

• A forklift will be needed to unload these units on delivery. They arrive on a vehicle, not by hand. Confirm you have a truck and a driver available on the delivery day.
• Measure the bench clearance and the aisle. The skip has to fit under the bench and roll out into a working aisle without blocking it. Castored equipment that has to be lifted over a lip or squeezed past a leg stops being used within a fortnight.

When a mini skip is the wrong answer

If the waste is metal swarf carrying cutting fluid, a plain skip will collect the fluid along with the chips. Look at our mobile swarf skips instead — the swarf unit has an internal drain for exactly that reason.
