A knock-down cage arrives as flat panels and bolts together where it is going to stand. That single difference solves the most common problem with security cages: a fully welded 1.6-metre-wide unit cannot be carried through a standard doorway, up a stairwell, into a basement or along a plant-room corridor. A knock-down cage can.
When to specify knock-down over welded
Take a knock-down unit when any of the following apply:
- The delivery route to the final position includes a standard door, a lift, a stair or a tight turn
- The cage may need to be relocated later, or dismantled at the end of a lease
- You expect to expand the store — panel-built cages can be extended with additional panels
- Offloading and manoeuvring a fully welded unit on site is impractical
Take a fully welded cage instead where maximum rigidity and tamper resistance matter more than access — a welded frame has no bolted joints to work loose or be attacked. The Grenadier security cages range covers the welded equivalents.
Strong knock down cages
The Grenadier Strong Knock Down Cages come in a red powder coat and are sized to slide under worktops or stand freely. Both models are 1625mm high by 1600mm wide, differing only in depth: SCK14Z at 825mm and SCK15Z at 1650mm. Assembly is straightforward, a padlock facility is fitted as standard (padlock not supplied), and holes in the base rails allow the cage to be bolted to the floor for additional security — floor fixings are not supplied. A forklift is needed to unload these units.
Knock-down and folding cylinder cages
Cylinder storage is where the knock-down format is most useful, because cylinder stores usually have to go outside, against a wall, in a spot a lorry cannot reach directly.
Folding cylinder cages (GLC20Z painted, GLC30Z galvanised) are built from 50 x 50mm mesh panels with a galvanised roof and a hasp and staple locking facility. The pallet-base versions — GLC25Z painted, GLC35Z galvanised — sit on a base incorporating forklift pockets, so the completed store can be repositioned as a unit.
Knock down gas cylinder cages use a finer 25 x 25mm mesh panel that bolts together into a strong, rigid frame, again with a galvanised roof and a locking facility. Three footprints are available, and the design is easy to expand with additional panels later:
- GLC50Z — 1007mm wide x 1070mm deep
- GLC60Z — 1954mm wide x 1070mm deep
- GLC70Z — 1954mm wide x 2045mm deep
The same three sizes are available with a floor grid panel as GLC55Z, GLC65Z and GLC75Z — worth having where the ground is uneven, soft or unmade, or where you want cylinders standing clear of standing water. Padlocks are not supplied with any of these units, and a forklift is needed for offloading.
Before you order
Measure the tightest point on the route in, not just the doorway — the panel dimension has to clear it.
