Grenadier Cages & Cylinder Storage

Grenadier Cages & Cylinder Storage

Grenadier is GPC Industries' heavy steel caging range: welded and bolt-together cages built to lock down valuable stock, hazardous goods and gas cylinders in yards, workshops and warehouses. Everything on this page is made in the UK by GPC. Below is what separates the families, so you can pick on specification rather than on picture.

Grenadier security cages

The Grenadier® Galvanised Security Cages are all-welded units built from steel angle infilled with 25 × 25 mm weld mesh, load tested and CE certified, with a maximum load of 500 kg and a padlock facility (padlock not supplied). Cranage eyes allow lifting — we recommend a spreader when doing so — and a hazardous chemical sign can be factory-fitted as an option. Mobile versions run on four 100 mm nylon castors, two of them braked, adding 115 mm to the overall height. The Heavy Duty Galvanised Security Cage (GSC1212) is the knock-down version: 1200 × 1200 × 1800 mm overall, 1390 × 1150 × 1150 mm internal, 500 kg capacity, typically 15–20 days lead time.

Where the cage needs a roof and a floor, the Security Cage with Roof & Base (GLC40Z) and the Security Cage with Lift Up Lid cover it. The lift-up-lid unit is fully welded, gas-strut assisted, and clever in one respect: with the lid shut the front doors cannot open, so the cage is completely secure and enclosed rather than merely bolted. It incorporates two fork-lift pockets for repositioning.

Knock-down and lock-up cages

Access is the usual reason to choose knock-down. The Grenadier® Lock Up Security Cage and Knock Down Cylinder Cages are built from 50 × 50 mm mesh panels with a galvanised roof and a hasp-and-staple locking facility, supplied flat so they can be carried through a normal doorway and assembled in place. Lock-up security cages come in three widths — GLC12Z at 1605 mm, GLC15Z at 2545 mm and GLC18Z at 3485 mm — and GLC25Z / GLC35Z cylinder versions add a pallet base with fork-lift pockets. A fork truck is needed for offloading.

At the smaller end, the Strong Knock Down Cages are red powder-coated units sized to sit under worktops or stand free, with holes in the base rails so they can be bolted to the floor for extra security (fixings not supplied).

Grenadier gas cylinder cages

The cylinder range is a separate design problem: ventilation, restraint and signage all matter. Grenadier® Gas Cylinder Cages are manufactured in angle iron with sides, ends and top infilled with metal strip and a base of inverted angle, giving 720 mm of usable distance between shelves and an internal size of 1560 × 840 mm — designed to carry up to 16 Calor-gas-type cylinders behind hinged lockable doors. Mobile models (GCC01N painted, GCC11G galvanised) have a push handle at one end; static models are GCC02Z and GCC12G.

The Cylinder Storage Lock Up Cages (CS501Z / CS502Z, and CP601Z / CP602Z / CP611G on a pallet base) are angle iron infilled with tough iron mesh, supplied with a highly flammable sign, with cylinders held by a retaining chain and the base drilled for fixing points. Depths of 1095 mm and 1715 mm cover most cylinder counts, in painted or galvanised finish. A forklift is needed to unload these units.

Choosing a Grenadier cage

Three questions usually settle it. Is the cage staying put or moving? Fully welded units are stronger; knock-down units get through doorways and expand later. What is going inside? Gas cylinders need the ventilated, chained cylinder designs with the correct signage, not a general security cage. And how will it be delivered and positioned — most of these units need a forklift to offload, and mesh panel sizes (25 × 25 mm versus 50 × 50 mm) determine how much can be reached through the mesh.
